Home Fit For a Hero

HOME FIT FOR A HERO

He was hopping around garden poor thing
Under the fall leaves and in deep grass
One leg and broken wing
Victim of a cat’s harass

Under assault he survived attack
My heart was straightway stirred.
Put a big foot on cat’s back
To stop it finishing off the bird.

Grabbed the sparrow as he pecked at me,
Scooped him up into a shoe box
Lined with fur and fed crumbs and tea.
No more flying with the flocks.

To Moose Jaw zoo - no cats allowed -
Lots of food scraps - payment zero.
Released among the friendly crowd :
Home fit for a flying hero.
