By and by, I've lost my way,
Try and try , hard as I may.
To have my life as once before,
To simply enter my front door.

The chance to step inside and feel,
That all's not lost, that I am real.
To touch, to hold, to smell, to see,
The safe and warm familiarity.
Of a home filled with love and happy faces,
Each room vibrant with years that have left their traces.

Laughter echoes through the halls,
Memories adorn the walls.
Soon reality crashes in,
And knocks me to my knees again.

A lifetime of momentos that defined me,
In a flash, are gone, and only memories remind me.
Of a home, no more, for it's all gone,
The world I knew now past.
A life destroyed and time has shown,
That nothing is made to last.
