Holidays
Holidays

I awoke before dawn to the sound of cold rain,
Which means most living here will be house bound.
I’m sure that on travelers this may cause strain,
But much to be thankful for can still be found.
Thanksgiving at the Wright’s is never a blowout,
For that doesn’t happen when there’s only two.
There is always ample and we usually pig out,
But on most holidays I’ve a tendency to feel blue.
Around this time of year the mail picks up,
Seems more people want what they think we possess.
The telephone starts ringing around sunup,
Coupled with past holiday’s they tend to depress.
But this soon passes as another year begins,
“If the Lord willing and the creek don’t rise..”
As for now It’s blather and political news spins,
And nothing I hear is a complete surprise.
But today we feel blessed and by God endorsed,
Having fifty-four years together and God has blessed.
Facing trials we’ve found our faith reinforced,
And we’ve viewed each one as God’s growth test.
