Hold the Very Smallest Nail

Hold the Very Smallest Nail
By Franklin Price

Hold the very smallest nail
Twixt your finger and your thumb
Grasp a sledge within your other hand
And if you are very dumb

Place the nail To hang a picture
For all the world to see
Take a swing with that great hammer
And in pain I think you'll be

Your thumb and finger blackened
By an ugly purple bruise
The hand that held the hammer
The only one that you can use

There's a big hole staring at you
In the wall that you just hit
The words that came out of your mouth
Did not tell your dog to sit

You followed all instructions
I'm sure you did them well
The cursing and the screaming
Is how I could really tell

There's a lesson in this story
In this tale I've told to you
Use the brain within your head
To clear everything you do

Don't follow others blindly
Don't believe in every tale
Find yourself a smaller hammer
And a little bigger nail
