Hoi Fast A Mother’s Devotion

In days of old, so sweet and pure,
A mother kept a fast demure.
For her son’s long life she’d pray,
Peace and joy to fill his way.

Without a drop of water all day,
In love’s deep vow her heart would stay.
She cleaned the courtyard, spread the clay,
Prepared the altar in her own way.

As sunset lit the evening sky,
She lit her lamps, with hope held high.
Incense rose, soft prayers she’d say,
Listening to tales at close of day.

Now times have changed, yet hearts remain,
A mother’s love knows not a chain.
For every child she now will fast,
Her blessing equally is cast.

No son, no daughter, all the same,
Her love shines bright in every name.
For every life she seeks the light,
This Hoi Fast is pure and bright.
