HISTORY OF HOME

The evidence is present
The frayed carpet
The dusty shelves
Pictures in their proper place
Evidence of a missing presence
...and no one noticing

I wonder if it's just me
Do I focus too much
Are my eyes set deep
Why is it so easy for me to see
The obvious neglect in
...care for one

Again and again, I return
Banking on proof of growth
The fruit is pretty and full
But worms in every bite
Never straight goodness
...requirements must be paid

The wounds have healed
Scars have numbed
Feelings are no longer felt
Desires, no longer expressed
Endurance is the way
...for the intruder
