For The Contest, “ Thousand-Watt Smile”

His Thousand-Watt Smile

Still with a thousand-watt broad smile.
        'tween hospital and in-home care,
                to help him add days to his life-
Dialysis for his kidney failure.

For what purpose, when fate was set?
        The pain of watching him fight hard
                for life never to be the same?
Was "rest in peace" the better goal?

But, matter not, that smile he kept
        uplifting friends and family.
                 But then, one day, he said, “Okay.
For 'rest in peace,' I'm ready now."
