I had just posted a funny pic on Facebook about a woman complaining about her weight saying, "I wish I could lose weight as easily as I lose my keys, pen, cell phone, and even my mind." It was all in good fun, and I got some cute responses from some lady friends. After a while, I got a notification on Facebook that someone wanted to chat with me. It was a student of mine whom I'd just had a talk with today. Here is what he said: Mrs. Eileen, do not worry about losing weight. You look gorgeous to me. Although it is better to be in a healthy body, but do not be troubled about it. You look awesome. Truly you are the best teacher ever." He wasn't doing that to butter me up either because he doesn't take any courses with me now. Isn't that sweet? When I told him I wish he knew me in my glory days, this is what he wrote: "You are still in your glory days." Well, that is what I call a present. Something to lift up the spirits. There are so many who just try to tear a person down. We never know the struggles people face, and sometimes just that one discouraging word is enough to push them over the edge. In the same way...that one encouraging word is enough to pull them back up from the edge. Oh that we would be careful of what we say. To bring cheer and not fear. That would be wonderful. As for me....I'm happy with my cyber gift of encouragement. Have you had such a gift today? I hope so. Hugs, Eileen

A story worth sharing, Eileen. I know it's a bit silly coming from me, but I've always thought age was more of a mindset and a choice of attitude. My grandpa has a lot of health problems, is perpetually tired, and all of his teeth or falling out... but I don't think I've seen someone so full of smiles as he. And even though I'm sure he doesn't feel good most of the time, he always feels it's his duty to make those around him laugh, as well as to teach a lesson. That's what people see.

Hi Eileen! Sometimes I meet female friends who I knew years back. Then, they were beautiful, but now that they are older they are even more beautiful. So do not go thinking that age is being unkind, far from it. Your student has perfect eyesight, and so do many of us! Good thing you can't read all that goes through our minds!:) hugs // paul

One day your daughter will know what a hot, talented, beautiful Mama she has!!! :) Can't wait to hear what she says then. I'm so glad you have taken this telling of affirming things to heart. Four compliments a day...I should adopt that was well. Let me start by saying your poetry has the tender quality of sensuality that is so appealing. I'm sometimes too brash and brazen, you have that softer touch which makes it beautiful...You are a fine poetess. Hugs

Oh dear...You are gorgeous. Your little girl doesn't know better. You made me smile, my dear. Thanks ever so much. I know your heart is true and what you write on my poems is how you feel. I can't tell you how much that means to me. We all love being affirmed, especially in areas where we feel insecure. No matter how many times I'm told I'm pretty...my insecurities get in the way. He was sweet to compliment me and give me a boost. Little things can do so much to bring smiles.

Thank you ever so much, David. He did make me feel good. I do want to lose weight and take better care of my health. I'm not condoning being complacent, but....it is a hard struggle for some. I'm in that group. :( I will try to work on it, but in the meantime, it's good that people can see beauty. I'm glad for your visits, my dear.

what a beautiful story! i can see how this lifted your spirits and i'm sure you conveyed this to your student. you're right - it doesn't take much to lift us up or tear us down. sometimes a word or two is enough...

I did convey my thanks to him, and will tell him about my post here. We joked for a minute or two. :) I do like to be on friendly terms with my students. They come talk to me in my office now and again. I love teaching. The interaction is great. I hope that I also encourage them to reach for greater heights. It's a give and take situation. Thanks for the visit, my dear. Hugs

Beauty does not come in a certain size. I am glad you could see yourself through your student's eyes. He obviously has an eye for beauty.

Richard, this is one of your sweetest posts. Thank you. You are well aware of my insecurities. Perhaps this would not be a big deal to anyone, but for me....compliments on my beauty always move me. I love knowing I've still "got it". I know it's silly...I know I should be more confident, but...I'm not, and these words really make me happy. Thank you for your post. I will treasure it always. Hugs
