His Daily Load
Waiting, wondering how bad it will be
Listening to the reports
words of panic riding on the waves
how could a day of celebration turn so bad
a dizzy one careening away from the tap house
full of grog and good cheer
the road swerved but he did not
sailing on wings of air
only to land in their place of slumber
the new life crushed out of them
they left quickly without pain
he tumbled out of his SUV
without a scratch upon his physique
but now he carries with him a daily burden
the weight of their souls bearing down on his head
