His Crushed Hope

The trees around blew words in wind A young man grasped them The branches spoke to intertwine The one he thought a gem So one day he led her to a crossing The water glistening a smile for him As his thoughts were waltzing And his words swim From his lips into her ears Sweet melodies of binds Something he has wanted for years And a calling back she finds He sees the glimmer in her eyes And knows its not a bless So his breath becomes a sigh And he pleas “please say yes” She looks like she is lost His words never this bittersweet His eyes were glossed And thumping was her heartbeat The next thing he hears will break his heart Ripping out the hope plant The next thing from his sweethart He hears “I can’t”
