Hippopotamus

A young friendly hippopotamus lived by the river, across from us Then one day five hunters came Looking to shoot big easy game. * They put five bullets in his head And now our friendly hippos dead They should bow heads in shame The lodge will never be the same. * To kill that beast a heinous crime They should do some prison time The rangers came arrested three But two hunters escaped scot free * They ran into the bush to hide Walked straight into a lion pride They paid a price, they did offend 'Cos Karma got them in the end.

I like this one. I think that each animal has the right to life and we should respect that until there is a very good reason that they need to go down. If a family needs food is a reason. Sara

Thank you very much Sara, Hunting for food is okay in my book, but those shooting rhino for their horns is unacceptable. Enjoy your weekend Tom

Karma does exist and does happen. I Wish the same could happen to our South African poachers , they kill rhinos and elephants as if it was a sport. However from this sport they get a lot of money. Well penned my friend. Blessings, Jennifer.

Thank you Jennifer, as you say big money involved and some governments turn a blind eye, at this rate the only place we'll see these animals are in zoos. Tom

Hunting should be illegal, so many beautiful creatures are lost in this cruel and senseless way. Karma got them good. Emilia : )

Indeed! You know what they say, Tom, what goes around comes around, and you tell it so well in your fantastic rhyme! I'm glad the lions made these criminals pay for their crime against Nature. Trophy hunting makes me sick! Tom, the creativity of your brilliant pen amazes me.. to rhyme "hippopotamus" with "across from us" is pure genius! Warmest wishes, my friend.. ~Susan

Thank you very much Susan, the way things are going many of these magnificent animals will be extinct. I was painting last week and those two lines just came into my head lol. Hope you're well Tom

Thank you very much Anne, nothing brave about killing an animal for pleasure, and some cultures believe rhino horns can make them manly, really? One day the only place you'll find these animals is in a book. Tom
Date: 11/12/2020 11:56:00 AM
Well they certainly got what they deserved Tom, though sadly the poor hippo could not return. I hate to hear of any animal that suffers from the hands of humans ~ it is totally inhuman... With kindest thoughts Ann xx

Thank you very much Ann, I have no time for those so called hunters who kill for sport, they are the scum of the earth, sadly rogue governments turn a blind eye because big money is involved. Hope you're well. Tom

Thank you Victor, many are on the brink of extinction but there is big money to be made, mankind slowly destroying the planet. He'll realise when its too late, you only have to look at the melting ice at the poles, God help us. Tom

P.S. that bloody rhyme ‘hippopotamus’ and ‘across from us’ is too clever by half.

Why, O Why, isn't hunting for sport always illegal? -- Well, I guess the statisticians are worried about a rapid rise in the hunting dog unemployment ranks, or something. Here's to sanity. :) gw

Thank you S. O. sadly thats true but do gooders seem to side with the culprits rather than the victims. Punishments rarely fit the crimes these days. Tom
