Hide and seek

On some days

I want to tell you everything

Where I was

What I did

What I felt

I like you seeing me

And the resonance

On other days

I want to hide in the bathroom for hours

And ignore you

When you call my name.

A spare, affecting free-verse poem that captures the push and pull between wanting intimacy and needing retreat. The short, isolated lines give each admission room to resonate, while the bathroom image makes the withdrawal feel immediate and recognisable. “I like you seeing me / And the resonance” is especially tender.
