He's Baack

On the heels of
last week’s snow storm,
Red Winged Blackbirds
have returned.
Resplendent males
red epaulets flared
against sleek black feathers
against cold white snow.
Staking their
patch of cattails,
each holding forth
Lord of his territory
each lustily calling
 "Okalee"
till his Lady arrives
fashionably late
with warmer weather.
