Notes About The Poem

My absolute best to all writers whom choose to see and so eloquently point out the beauty in a world such as ours!

Here's To the Poets

Here's To The Poets

With so many people confounded by words,
unable to say what they need to be heard,
our music is first in the last of our means
we use to convey how to say what we mean.

With genres and styles unique as us all,
our flavor and taste feeds the soul, should it call,
soothing the beast that's found trapped in it's cage
by expressing the feelings left lost in its rage.

In our happiest times or a moment of cross,
in sadness or joy, finding love, or it's loss,
the poetic words speak to serve our desire
to share in a moment consumed in its fire.

For those of us challenged, in whole to impart,
needing more than our own word to speak from the heart,
here's to the poets and writers of song,
whom find ways with their words to say all that we long.

"... For those of us challenged, in whole to impart, needing more than our own word to speak from the heart, here's to the poets and writers of song, whom find ways with their words to say all that we long." Eloquently sums up what I think a poem should do. Love it!

Yes! I love the way you say what I have thought about poems and songs but couldn't articulate. Particularly the comparison between styles of poem and characters of people. Thank you.

Expression of feeling of a subject matter in words is an art which differs from poet to poet due to difference of styles. Whatever they may be but says surely what they long. Beautiful poem read from you. Welcoming with warm heart to P.S. Loved always, my lovely new friend,bl

Very nicely done, Jeannie. It's good to find someone who knows how the get to syllable count right and has a delightful way with words. I would have said who in that last line. -Warren

It depends on whether the people are the subject or the object in the sentence. In this case the people you refer to as the poets and writers of songs are the subject and so the corresponding word must be who. Had you said the songs of poets and writers, songs would have been the subject with the poets and writers the object and whom would be the correct corresponding word when speaking of them in a different light. For example: The songs of poetry and writers of whom many critics have spoken. It sounds a bit confusing at first but it's the best I can can come up with on the spur of the moment. May anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about this. We are all learning here.

Thank you, Warren. I considered your edit suggestion but I thought it would be improper because I was speaking of people. Was that incorrect? I need to know because I too am here to learn and be a better writer.
