Here We Are,Free Africans
Through dark ages
Through ugly ages
Through pale-faced lanky ages
We've crawled through the thorns of life and leapt fearlessly over life's hurdles.
Through the gates and walls that caged our birds
We crept and our birds sung free!
Our birds sung still!
Through dark putrefying valleys
Across seas and oceans that are as dark as the hour before the birth of a-new day!
Across the forehead of burning mountains
Under the eyes of the sun which burns like sulphur in a furnace
Here we are!
Free like a bird that dances across the amazon
Free as the ocean's water when it breaks through a firmament of rocks.
Here we are!
Swaying from side to side
Like the blooming wings of a flower.
Here we are!
Basking under the glistening lights of freedom and independence!
Across the Mediterranean beauty
Through the historical stockings of the Pyramids
Under the pure-hearted rains of the West that gloat us with awe.
Under the spell of the crimson-lipped songbird which sings across the mountains of the East!
Upon the natural awe of the South which makes the stars tremble!
Alas! Here we are!
Free Africans!
Free as rain!
