Here Comes the Rain
Rain ! Rain!!
Come again
Never ever go away
A good harvest is what we pray (repeat 2 times)
How can I
with my lips
motion the rain
to stop drumming on my roof
as it descends like clattering hoof?
While the children pray to play
and narrate twilight tales
far into the darkness of the night,
I pray for a good harvest at sight.
Tonight the rain descended
from heaven's stairs.
It descended amidst
despair, hunger and mist.
Among trees and shrubs
like tiny little bulbs,
in rhythmic song
to the disappointment of the little ones.
Here comes the rain tonight
bringing news of bounty at sight,
green vegetables, cooked corns,
ripe raisins, and brown looking wheat-
for flours to make some buns.
When the rain descends
from among the clouds
upon the meadows
and upon dry beds
it brings wealth to our farmland.
Let those children know
that their songs cannot scare the rain
let them know that
we in this part of the world
have songs to welcome the rain.
Rain ! Rain!!
Come again
Never ever go away
A good harvest is what we pray (repeat till fade)
