Here and Again

I was the girl
Always celebrating
An adventure.
I was always
The first to climb
The ladder.
I was once told
My chaos is the
Most beautiful thing about me
And I never forget
To breathe before jumping in.

I have fallen
Out a window
Because the glass wasn’t there.
I have stood on the edge
Of a roof and counted the stars.
I have loved heights and
The feeling of being
Untouchable.
I have laid on the ground
As my chalk outline was drawn
On the asphalt.
I have never forgotten the taste
Of a pomegranate, ripe rubies bursting
Across my lips.
And I have felt
The icy cold tingle
Following something breathtaking.
I have had a snowflake melt
On my tongue, tasted
The ice crystals vanish.
I have lived for
The smell of the rain and
The feel of new books.
I have ran into the ocean
Until I was forced to my knees.

I’ve wasted an afternoon
With hot chocolate and a blanket fort.
I’ve never taken
Words for granted.
I’ve seen broken things
I couldn’t fix.
I’ve dreamt of a hand in shadows,
Always searching.
First nightmare.

I saw a day
When California lost its shine.
One day.
And a night that vanished
The meaning of regret,
Backwards silence.
It took me 6 years
To learn
How to smile for the camera.

Once I saved a butterfly
Caught in a spider’s web.
Once I reached into a hole
And discovered a frog.
I once traced the path
Of a shooting star
And once found the end
of a rainbow above my bed.

Buried myself in the sand
Lost my way,
Found a shortcut.
I am, I have, I was
Now and then,
Here and again.

This poem was an adventure for my mind Iris. I really enjoyed reading this today. I don't get around here much anymore but I am happy I popped in today and found this. What a wonderful poetic glimpse into the poet.

Thank you so much Chris! It seems from your poetry that you are going through tough times and I just want to say that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, even if it is a long one. And I'll be here until then. Your presence means a lot and I have been missing your words. You have inspired me to write a lot more recently. Thank you so much for coming back today and I sincerely hope you stay.
