Herb Wint and Mckinley
Great moments in the world need great hearts to behold it
For there are things that flashes grandeur
Mere eyes can describe, majestic love can ever interpret
The wonders of your feat. I bring honor
From the present to crown the kings of our beginning
I bring tribute from a modern nation
To the great Olympians that began our famous winning.
O bathe your heart in this our ovation.
If men ask your story, what shall I tell them of your truth
That a champion is not born but made
In the furnace of the heart. That every man has in pursuit
Some dream to exalt his name; paid
In blood is the price of every victory, and those who see
Beyond the brink of self, who connect
To ancestral hunger, will rise triumphant in their jubilee,
I bring you back the equivalent respect.
We had no flag, nor anthem, for your great victory then,
We merely an appendage to others dream
But with personal dignity you chasten us to rise as men
And out of nothing make mission gleam.
We awakened have not slept again, watchers of justice
Movers where progress makes a motion
Zephyrs of morning sweet, we welcome you with bliss,
O drain your cup, drink full of this ovation.
