Her Heart

It's gone. The sound that echoed in the empty room. She wonders if anyone could hear it hammering against her ribs. Was it always that loud, and no one told her? Maybe it's trying to make a great escape in case that thing comes back. Just the thought of it coming sends it running into the woods. Ever so often, it screams to her, telling something is wrong. It loves to pull that alarm as if it's saying hello. Maybe it's time for this human to listen to her heart.
