Notes About The Poem

[written for and dedicated to my oldest, Emily Elizabeth Hankins, and published in my first poetry chapbook, "The Lady in the Pink Hat," Candor Press, 1969.]

Her

Her star shines bright
Above the rest
She is my child
She is my best, of
All that I could give
Her blood and being
She has shared
With a world fleeing
Mediocrity.

Thank you for sharing this. It is heartwarming as a father to have daughter's who "shine bright" and live a life above mediocrity.

Thanks for your read and your comment, Gary. This poem was written when she was just a little girl. Now, her daughter has made me a great-grandfather twice!
