Helping Grandpa
Just a rusty box.
Full of tools that were once his.
Passed down to me now.
Although I was a girl
I helped side by side when I could.
Need a picture hung?
Out came the old tool box.
grab a hammer for Grandpa.
Pull out a sack and get a nail.
Hand it to him. Big smile.
Need a knob tightened?
I'd find the screwdriver
in his big tool box.
Strange?
It doesn't seem that big now.
The hammer looks smaller too.
I will cherish that tool box.
it's old, rusted, has some dents.
But it's mine.
As are the memories of standing there
helping Grandpa.
