Help Me Look the Other Way

Help Me Look the Other Way

By Elton Camp

There are some things I prefer not to see
And I hope that’s how it will always be

It’s not exactly that I don’t actually care
If I don’t see, then it’s like it’s not there

My eyes I will ever so gladly deviate
To avoid sights that I both fear and hate

The drug addict hooked on cocaine
Out of view may he always remain

The abandoned child so poorly fed
I willingly prefer to turn my head

The homeless laying along the street
I prefer not to acknowledge or greet

For if these awful sights I have to see
I think how easily it could’ve been me

Hello David, Like many, I've lived a largely sheltered life, but still realize how easily it could have been otherwise. Elton
