Help, I Cant Find Sleep

Help! I can’t find sleep.   Tired eyes and aching limbs A mind that seeks a rest, It’s time to put my jarmies on And don’t forget my vest!   As I switch off all the plugs And check around of me, Curiously I come to find That sleep is trying to flee.   “Wait there just a minute!” I yell Catching him by the toe, “Just where do you think you’re off to?” And “No, I won’t let you go!”   He struggles and he squirms Stillness his enemy, “Fine!” at last I agree, “We’ll have just one more tea”.   Kettle boiled, tea is brewed From steaming cup I drink, But hang on just a minute Now there’s time to think.   Days gone by, times of past All come into my mind, Whatever will my future be And will it be unkind?   Sleep you’ve done it once again You’ve taken peace from me, You really are a naughty thief Stealing all tranquillity.   Heading for the chocolate draw The obvious place to go, And before you ask to share with me The answer is just “no!”   Comfort in my happy place Is edibly soon found, Though tired eyes I cannot hold I really need sleep around.   Apologising reluctantly For being mean to him, “Would you like a cup of tea, Or maybe even Gin?”   Now sleep has had his wicked way He’s got me in his hand, For I would now do anything To nod off in dream land.   “Please sleep” I beg of him “We’ve done chocolate and tea, Can we not just now agree It’s time for bed” I plea.   Then I notice with despair Out of reach he’s climbed, How did he manage to escape, Have I lost my mind?   “Sleep I emplore you, Please come back to me” Tired eyes, bags and wrinkles Don’t look good you see.   Up again I search the house Look everywhere I can think, “Sleep why can’t I find you?” Tears now on the brink.   Finally “It’s no use” I say Climb into bed I decide, I really am good company I’ve no idea why you hide   I toss and turn and close my eyes Tight, stuck as if by glue, You really are a tiresome pest “Sleep! Where are you?”
