Hello, January

Hello, January, what a zinger
of a storm you brought with you this year, Friend!
Why can’t you just let December linger?
You know I hate vacation time to end!

I know you think you’re such a special guy,
with people counting down the seconds till
you have arrived and shooting up the sky
with fireworks, but from there, it’s all downhill!!

All those people making resolutions!
You’ve wiped the slate? All things will be like new?
To me, it seems you offer mere illusions,
and yet I keep believing in you too!

I’m begging you, don’t let this year go wrong,
and please get ALL the months to play along!!

Love the last two lines. Yeah been another one of those years--must be in a 7 year slump or something. Funny how some years go good and others are just the pits. love phyl

Yeah, this January was a zinger. And I didn't even make a resolution. Enjoyed this poem, just getting ready for yet another storm. Take care Andrea.

Beautifully done Andrea! I like the kind of irony in the term friend as the JAnuary you describe doesn't seem to be very welcome as it brings with it the storm. Many resolutions are made and many are broken each January - you've said it very well.

So you got hit too. Bummer! Getting the roads safe to drive, Michigan could use all the salt in the Great Salt Lake, eh. Good for the roads though. They are smooth because all the pot holes are filled up with auto parts. Harr, harr, harr. Love, daver

Oh Andrea my January is all suited up to. We had that storm. I couldn't wait for the kids to go back to school. Still cleaning up messes. But as bad as it was I'm glad that another souper knows my pain.

I've wondered the same myself; what's so great about January? Lots of excitement and fireworks, then everyone goes back to everyday life. Nicely done... Jack
