Hello, Death

He stands at the end of my bed, emotionless, pale, and fills me with dread.

Silence. He wants me, like a cobra eyeing up its prey.

He doesn’t talk, but he for sure listens. When the time comes to take, that’s when he glistens.

When he took him, at least he took him peacefully,

But he was withered and broken. He did not endure so easily.

Was it he that injected the devil into his helpless lungs?

Did he celebrate when he won?

Did he sing songs of solace with his devilish tongue?

Death took what I remembered, for I was just twenty-four gone.

All that’s left is a picture. This feels so wrong.

My memories are evaporated, gone forever.

What did we do together?

My skull is fractured and will never heal.

Come on, Death, what’s your deal?

He tried to take me before.

Closer and closer, he glided across.

I tried to move, run away, but he put shackles on me and made me stay.

We came face to face.

Does he take different forms?

He was a clown for me.

What was he for you?

I knew it was real, but it was a nightmare, a nightmare. I lied.

Just leave me alone.

Isn’t it time you go home?

Haven’t you done enough?

Just leave me be.

When I see you again, I know it wont be pretend, for Death follows a deadly trend.

I’ll be braced and informed and ready to go.

Why did you take my grandad Joe?
