Hello
"Hello," she said and took my hand.
Just a simple kind of greeting.
I had done this a thousand times -
Two people and a first meeting.
"Hello," she said and took my hand.
My mouth went dry and formed a grin
As my brain struggled for control,
And I became the least of men.
I am a romantic at heart
Best known as a sophisticate.
Well versed in arts of seduction -
Never been known as celibate.
And yet there I stood, mouth agape,
Trying to find my own clear voice.
A fool dressed as a simple clown.
Knowing in this role I had no choice.
No one warned me of love's approach.
I expected trumpets, you see.
Hello is such a simple word,
But it took the measure of me.
