Heavy Splendor

so there I was hanging out
between the door jam
in between the
crack and sunlight
hoping to grow like the skinny weed
trying to break free of the concrete
to be better for whoever
or worse
but lost that diamond ring actually now
pushing daisies back up
to the sixth floor window somewhere
between the street below and hell if I know
I had carried that mountain for you
wrapped in a big ole lazy bow
and waded for you in heavy splendor
until that day you came home
carrying that poem
and said that I should
plant my own flowers
because you had found
another rose

Lovely to find this powerful poem published in the 2020 PS Anthology ~ brilliantly penned, a FAVE for me, Gabrielle.

My kind of poetry - so subtle but powerful, leading to an ending which explodes with a surprising big bang! Love it and a fav! Hugs. Pandita

Yes, they always seem to find, "another rose". This was a well-crafted piece of poetry, indeed.

Another amazing write. "Waded for you in heavy splendor", what an incredible way to describe that feeling, waiting for one you love... and your ending is sublime! As Caren said, it can be taken more than one way- brilliant work!

Ah, it is so beautiful I am diving in for a third read. Gabrielle, this is so much fun, my friend. So thought-provoking, and the ending could be taken in several ways, so I am taking it in at least three of them. I love this!
