Heaven Portends
Fall's snow has melted; lawns once more are clear
But grass has turned to mud and trees aren't bare
While warmer air now makes new buds appear
With leaves on sidewalks soaked through everywhere
The skies are gray, days quickly run their course
Dark nights go on and on; men's souls they try
The damp, wet earth's now braced for changes worse
Folks young and old feel something strange is nigh
Stealth figures chance abroad as nighttime falls
n cloaks and hoods, enigmas wrapped n mist
Shapes creep and writhe along beneath black shawls
And whisper evil warnings as they twist
Such signs on earth, in heaven ominous
Portend dark deeds by villains merciless
Iambic pentameter
