Heaven For a Poet

My own piece of heaven, a quiet little nook,
With only the finest parchment in a leather book,
A feather quill pen and an ocean of ink,
My thoughts would never stop to think,
Every single line I write would rhyme,
My poetry would be beautiful and sublime,
I'd be entertained daily, by Dr. Seuss,
And, put to sleep nightly, by Mother Goose,
Lessons from Byron, Shelley, Coleridge and Poe,
Teaching me every single thing that they know.

My own piece of heaven, will have to wait,
Until one day, when I must meet my fate,
So, for now I will have to be content,
With my own words that may be heaven sent,
Inspiration from my idols is all I need,
Writing poetry in a notebook from Mead,
With this cheap, plastic Bic pen,
And a dream to be, just like them.

Hi, Kelly, I am sure that there have been many great poems that have come from a cheap Bic pen because all that matters is the poet that holds it. I gather inspiration often by reading some of my favorite poems just to get the creative juices flowing. If we believe our words are heaven sent then we can always be satisfied with the results. Trust in God and the muse and always be patient to let it flow. Never try to force it. And be happy with the result. Love is the journey..... Robert.

You are absolutely right, Robert. It does not matter what we write with, as long as we write with our hearts. I have gone through times when I wanted to write, but the inspiration just wasn't there. I forced myself to and the result was not worth the effort. Now I know to just let the words flow and if they are not, then I don't bother to write... Thank you for your wonderful comments, Robert. I truly appreciate it!

I love Love LOVE all your references, but you had me with Shelley and Poe (two of my faves). This is an outstanding poem (going into my faves). Excellent work! :)

Quite the contrast here. Sounds about like what I do :) Not sure about the Doc S. though. "Byron, Shelley, Coleridge, and Poe" are in perfect order; the rhythm of the syllables is very pleasing to my ear. Did you perhaps mean "every" in the line following? By the way, this is a very good poem and I like it! I wonder though, if it would be more effective if the verses were reversed? I normally prefer ending on a heavenly note.

I see what you mean, but with my ending, I wanted to show that I am not that great, yet.... Still struggling to be perfect, just like everyone else is!
