Heathers and Dragonflies
[ Opens with Harmonica ]
I was a broken man, down on my knees
Traveling on a train to nowhere;
A troubling, endless journey;
Through worry, pain and hardship.
Then one day,
The conductor came to me and said, “Son, it’s time to get off the train”.
Heathers and dragonflies were all around me
Relaxing my mind and helping me see
From dusk to gleaming of splendid stars
These pineland muses supported me far
So were gathered my family and all of my friends
As they have been with me from beginning to end
Amongst rocks, around bushes and through branches of trees
The heathers and dragonflies were all around me
I am now a sturdy man, standing head held high;
Supporting a family of many;
I work two jobs, raise my kids
And keep a good home.
Then early today,
My wife came to me and said, “Please go out back and tend the garden”
Heathers and dragonflies are all around me
Touching my soul and letting me be
From dusk to gleaming of splendid stars
These pineland muses support me hence far
So gather my family and all of my friends
As you have been with me from beginning to end
Amongst rocks, around bushes and through branches of trees
The heathers and dragonflies are all around me
I’ll be an elder man, aged with golden grace;
Poised on a bench wrought by wisdom.
A history of peace, love and fulfillment,
Will ease me through my slowing times.
One day future,
Good father will come to me and say, “Your resting place shall bring you peace.”
Heathers and dragonflies will be all around me
Warming my spirit and setting me free
From dusk to gleaming of splendid stars
These pineland muses will have supported me far
So will gather my family and all of my friends
As they’ll be with me from beginning to end
Amongst rocks, around bushes and through branches of trees
The heathers and dragonflies will be all around me
