Heartstrings

His fingers flew like hummingbirds
across his old guitar
as he played his wordless melody
in the shadows of the bar.

Suddenly the crowd was still
as every ear tuned in
to hear the song without the words
that sang itself to him.

But someone in the shadows listened
deep within her heart
and heard each silent word
his strings intended to impart.

Then, when the lights came up again
he hushed his old guitar,
and as her misty eyes met his,
he embraced her from afar.

Wow I love this. Too bad it is mostly only haiku that get numbered placements and rarely good rhymes like this one. A fave

Thank you Andrea! I'm pleased you liked this. It is currently being judged on another site's monthly contest. In that contest my poem "Willow" won second place last month, give that one a read and see what you think. Thank you for your kind words! Ron

Hi Darlene, maybe they do, maybe they have a history, maybe... but the point is that I leave that up to my audience to decide for themselves. My view was always they were formerly together and were separated by life's events and rediscovered each other in the bar. But that's me. Either way, it is a good thing. your friend, Ron
