Heartfelt farewell

Standing tall dressed in regalia
twenty-one gun salute detonates
a lump lodged deep in my throat
combination pride sorrow and so much more

Line, This poem with the honor reserved for presidents and foreign dignitaries. Your 'twenty-one gun salute' reminded me of a different salute seen by so many in an iconic photo. It was a sad day that should've been a happy one. John Jr's salute at his father's state funeral, on his third birthday. -Richard
