Heart Song
Yell and scream
And fight it out
Angry voices turn to shouts
Neither knows how the other feels
No thoughts or fears or dreams revealed
Both hurt so many times before
Each faith is shaken to the core
Looking at the world around
With each breath our spirits drown
On the pain of heartbreaks dwell
Only Shadows of ourselves
Our hearts are shackled bound in chains
No twinkle in our eyes remains
Preparing for the worst it seems
It can’t hurt when you have no dreams
Used to have the future planned
Two kids, a dog, a mini-van
Never used to doubt these things
Now thoughts of these only sadness brings
Walls we’ve built around our hearts
Doing our best to dodge cupid’s dart
Let down too many times before
Our hearts now safe behind locked doors
Surviving life but never living
Each old scar so unforgiving
Often feeling all alone
Even though friends and family phone
Wanting to protect them all
Not take them down if you fall
Can’t succeed if we don’t try
Start practicing a battle cry
Push through the darkness into the light
Never willingly give up the fight
The past is done and gone
The future plays a mysterious song
So through the present we’ll carry on
