Notes About The Poem

Hiya's Angst of an Angel Contest ~ October 3, 2026

Heart Riven and Torn Asunder

I was once a perfumed flower in his concubine court
sweet scented bud that bloomed at his touch
and despite the harem hijab that hid my lips,
he knew the seductive smile I always wore for him.
But I've become a jasmine veiled with jinxed jewels.

What is left of us worthy to be labeled 'love'?
Is there an answer to my anxious askance ~
a panacea to explain my pitiable plea?
I am drowning in a deluge of doleful disdain
with grief that tortures me with pain.
Lost and lonely for all eternity I shall be ~
A wave removed from the sea
    A night bereft of moonlight
A pair of eyes robbed of sight
        A storm without roaring thunder
A heart riven and torn asunder

Forever was written in the light of his eyes
Now, I must learn to live for lovesick lies
In solemn solitude I choose to morosely mourn
hiding my deepest ache and darkest sorrow.
I feel passionate pangs of jealousy
when moonlight fondles waves on the sea
for I remember the way his touch tenderly ~
so slowly and sensually found its way over me.

A love once real wears a chameleon disguise.
He has no ear to hear my deep dolorous sighs
nor does he care about my woeful worries.
I despise having the emotional angst of an angel
who's been betrayed by the one who owns my soul.
I silently struggle to maintain a position of dignity
when no longer does he hold me in his arms
seductively swaying under shining starlight skies.
I'm tempted to go dancing with my sweet demons
and give myself up to their flaming fangs of fire.

I must not give in to evil thoughts. They're a bane
I cannot fathom, for he will always be in my heart
and that's the part of me that must let him go.
He was always my Phoenix Sun, lighting my way.
If only I could forgive the wrong that he's done
but my traces of tears flow like beads of blood
and I wane, an angel without wings. bitterly crying.
Tortured and tormented is what I've become.
I script verse after verse with anguished agony
for grief is a ghostwriter whose ink drips from my pen.

Lin, your lines are full of emotion and sorrow and so beautifully penned. Love the " I've become a jasmine veiled with jinxed jewels.". The tone full of angst and sadness. Best for the contest, I am sure it will place high on the winner's list. -hugs

What was once a a loving relationship has soured and she's been cast aside, lost love is painful. Brilliant narrative Lin. Your pen is on fire. Tom🌹

Cast aside and left suffering the pangs of betrayal. What could be worse? Thanks, Tom. 🌹 Hiya and Ink both offer prompts for their contests that stir my senses... credit to both of them for my poetry. ⭐

Wow I am speechless! I just love love love this! I want to fave this over and over again! I love your use of hijab! And the alliterations the depth of the metaphors and how the prompts flow seamlessly here! Guess we both were in a similar space while writing today! This is one of my most fave poems from your soul linners! Who needs a ghostwriter when your ink so eloquently weave blackmagic like this! I must say the phoenix sun line hits so deep too! Your dignity will never be deleted not by the false prophet nor any lethal love! I know Hiya will absolutely love this! Pleasure reading Sending you light always

Dear Ink ~ after reading your lines for Hiya's contest I clearly see that we were in a similar space in writing about what she calls ache and sorrow. We are often on the same floor of the poetic realm when given the prompts that are so conducive to feeling angst. Pity that we write from experience, but it's what makes our poetry real. A phoenix sun should always come from a source in our lives that we can count on... sadly not always the case. I am truly grateful that you think this one worthy of a 'most fave.'❤️ as well as for the level of my dignity. If we lose that, there's nothing but to win it back. Hiya's prompts touch me in a way that stirs my blood to turn it into ink that needs to bleed on a page.
