Heart and Soul

Listen to poem:
Heart & Soul What a wonderful thing to behold! Have you ever seen one quite so cute? Never ever wanna let you go.. dressed in a brand new birthday suit. How nicely you plucked heart strings.. that day you flew into life, on two sun-kissed shining wings. All your charms, sent my heart straight to Mars, the day you fell asleep.. right here in my arms.. Oh Heart & Soul.. Not yet even one day old, left me feelin' ten feet tall.. so precious a tale be told.. pink bottom and all! Went to shop for ribbons and bows, said the angels.. we don't have any of those.. how 'bout ten fingers and toes? The day you took my heart & soul, was oh so nice, yes all sugar and spice, so glad your mom brought you home.. would a kept you at twice the price. Under lightning streaked flashing glow.. the night a duet sought to become a sweet trio. Please tell your mom she's still the best, no better nine month gift was I ever blessed.

There is nothing better; no gift better ever. "Went to shop for ribbons and bows, said the angels.. we don't have any of those.. how 'bout ten fingers and toes?" YES!

I experienced walking on air, flying up to the clouds when our granddaughter was born....and I can understand your euphoric feelings, Richard. And plus that, she is capable of making us feel much younger! ~ Best regards // paul

The joy of birth. I still remember when my daughter was born. Ok, don't laugh. I just fainted.

This was really sweet. I read it first and smiled ... but then I clicked on the song, with the words still in my head, and smiled even more. What a feeling of joy for a new little one to come into the world. My favorite part was the part about offering ten fingers and toes instead of ribbons.

Your work does have a lyrical quality about it. So wonderful to have new life born into a family. Our daughter has a step-granddaughter now fourteen months old. She has added so much to the family. Sara

Juliet, Thank you for that. But I must admit there was a time when my hands conspired against both. My penance comes through a life lived half as rich as it may've been, still more than ever deserved. -Richard

Hello Harry, Thank you for this comment. It reminded me again of a quote for a life well served. “A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others” -L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
