He use to call me DAN

I remember back in grade school
Jeffery Thompson grabbed my hand
Looked me in the eyes and smiled
Before he called me DAN
DAN wasn't my name
I was just glad to have a friend
I went along and played
He-he’in and ha-haw’in
I thought that we were friends
I found out I was a pawn
To keep Jeffery entertained
A cloaked enemy in arms
It was like that for a while
Everyday he'd grab my hand
Give me an endearing smile
Then proceed to call me DAN
Until one day lil Jeffery
Dug his fingers in my hand
Contorting his mouth while he did it
So I knew he wasn’t playin
Saying “You’re a ing DAN”
Emphasis on D when he’d say it
I pulled away drawing blood
He looked at my pain, Elated
The look in that devils eyes
As they fully dilated
As my innocence was soiled
His demons celebrated
Another agent of the curse
The wicked placed upon the royal
I felt a major shift within
As my blood started to boil
He told me DAN means Dumb Ass
A bomb detonated inside
Before I knew what happened
I felt my fist collide
It snapped me back to reality
Before me Jeffery cried
Everybody came to see
What was happening and why
To avoid getting in trouble
Little Jeffrey lied
Then my homies Chance and Chad
Beat lil Jeffery up outside
After that experience
It changed how I experienced
Now I’m repulsed by hate
Whenever I be hearin it
Enraged by the hate
They have for me in their eyes
We should be mad for what their ancestors
Came here and did to mine
Bout the false narrative they painted
While robbing Black culture blind
Bout the lives they keep taking
For the way that we shine
And for the color of our skin
This is what happens when a son of God
Meets the God of Sin
Now I’m weary of them certain folks
With a particular tint
Cause while you’re young you call me D.A.N.
While you pretend to be my friend
How would it be if we were older?
I don’t care to find that out
You can be standing in my path
I’ll find a different route
I’ll keep my head down in passing
So I can keep the peace
I know you’re calling me a D.A.N.
Without even speaking
