He is Getting Tired Now

He is getting tired now
of suffering and pain
the injustice caused by
all the hatred and shame

He is getting tired now
fearing each cop he meets
just might be the one to
lay him down in the street

He is getting tired now
does that group of white men
walking up behind him
have a gun in their hand

He is getting tired now
when he goes out at night
wondering if today was
the last time he’d see light

He is getting tired now
He doesn’t want to be
a martyr to a cause
He just wants to be free
