Notes About The Poem

He Is Flawed

Sol's the personification of the sun:
     a sun-god, worshiped by the ancient Romans.
          In the Circus Maximus, races were run:
               while Sol's temple priests interrupted omens.


Sol's chariot ignites the east edge of night,
     with a ball of fire and beams of brilliant light.
          The giver of life, Sol's a resplendent god:
               and yet, though sculpted in marble, he is flawed.
