He Gave Her a Book
She Gave Me a Bible
My mother-in-law, gave me the love of a mother.
A woman that dared to be different from any other.
She loved deeply and held every single one of us
to her bosom. She helped and inspired me through
rough and good times. I never had to ask; she always
knew the signs.
She gave me a Bible, the New International Version,
to find strength in times of need.
Baptists believe that the Bible is the only authority
because it is divinely inspired.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 16 All Scripture is God-breathed
and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting
and training in righteousness,
17 so that the servant of God may be
thoroughly equipped for every good work.
I was brought up old Catholic,
but she taught me another side
of divine love and compassion.
My heart broke when she had a stroke,
with it came Alzheimer. Imprisoned
in a rapidly shrinking brain.
As her brain slowly died, she changed
physically and eventually forgot those she loved.
Ultimately became bedridden,
unable to move and unable to eat or drink.
She finally passed, but she left a legacy of love,
joy, and compassion to everyone one she raised and met.
