Hard, Hard World

Maybe, I'm too soft
for a hard, hard world,
its jagged edges waiting
like a rusty nail in a floorboard
for a proverbial foot to pierce

Maybe, I'm too kind
for a greedy world,
its open maw screaming
like a nest of baby crows
to be fed by my giving soul

Maybe, I'm too gentle
for an angry world,
its clenched fist smashing
my smiling face
with a vicious left hook

Maybe, I'm too reserved
for an hyperactive world,
with a billion neurons flashing
cross its vapid mind,
burning the retina of my soul

Maybe, its a hard, hard world
