Happy Trails

At the end of their shows
Both Roy Rogers and Dale,
On horseback, would sing the same song.
It was meant, I suppose,
And it never did fail,
As a sweet way of saying “So long!”

For the message conveyed
As they crooned their farewell
Was, “We’ll see you again very soon;”
And the smiles they displayed,
More than words, would compel
Us to know that would be opportune.

So my husband and I,
When we’re taking our leave
Of our grandson, will sing “Happy Trails;”
And he knows it’s goodbye
But I truly believe
That more sweetness than sadness prevails.

Ilene the issue with comments appearing in the wrong box is when someone else posts a comment when you are replying to the one underneath - if you copy it from the page and go to your out box then you can delete it and then post it on the correct comment - tried to soup mail you this but i couldn't:-( hugs Jan xx

Hi Ilene - I wonder how that could have happened. You would have to be on the page of the poem to leave a comment. Regardless, you are still one of my favorite poets, and glad about the happy accident because it has been awhile since I've read your poetry. - Gail {:>
