Happy Poems

I want to write happy poems
Of hopes and dreams; of love and light;
About tender kisses in the night,
And all the ways lovers find delight.

But, the memory of you
Comes into my mind, intruding.
Thoughts of you keep exuding;
In the end I just find myself brooding.

I took a gamble on love;
The cards were dealt, the dice were tossed.
When the game was over, I had lost.
I wouldn't have played had I known the cost.

So I sit here, broken in spirit;
No joy to beg, or steal, nor borrow.
All I can do is unload this sorrow.
Maybe I'll write a happy poem tomorrow.
