Happy Ending

On a sunny day, under the trees,
news floats on a gentle breeze.
A gliding wheelchair makes its rounds,
with me, a load of ninety pounds.
My quiet helper hums a pretty tune.
Closed eyes see what's coming soon.
Who'd have guessed I'd ever know,
'twould be such a pleasant way to go.

LOL! Closed eyes see what’s coming soon…sounds dangerous! Happy ending perhaps a twist on words?

A few days ago, I saw a young caretaker walking a VERY old woman in a wheelchair here at the retirement community where I live. It was a beautiful, sunny day. The lady was really old, very thin, her eyes closed, not moving at all, and arranged in her chair as to appear almost lifeless. Her caretaker was humming a sweet tune, like a lullaby. We walked in opposite directions. I greeted them, hoping the old lady would respond, but here was no movement from her. The caretaker said, "Hi". Somehow, my heart went out to both of them. I had a distinct sense, that lady doesn't have much time left.
