Notes About The Poem

My parents, (who just celebrated their 70th Anniversary), were born four days apart and turn 93 this week, on the 18th and 22nd - this is for them!

=======================================

Happy Birthday Mom and Dad

Oh countless oaths are given to true love

Still few can so survive life's passing tests

And rarer yet are souls bound from above

The fires of heaven lasting in their breasts

A blessing to have witnessed such a bond

The loving ones who gave to me my breath

None others have I known that are as fond

Of honoring commitment through to death

In seven decades now they have embraced

Each other midst a weaving of their dreams

United thru the bad and good they've faced

Each challenge as the truest of such teams

Of all life's blessings I have known and had

None other e'er will equal ... Mom and Dad.

A touching tribute to long-lasting commitment and soul bonding. I'm glad you were able to give them this gift while you still have them. Soak up every moment with them you can. I'm sure they are very proud of you as you are of them. A joy to read this, thank you. ~ John

Many kind thanks for this wonderful comment, John, and for taking the time to read and share words - I'm so pleased you liked my poem. My dad died on October 27 - about a month after writing this poem - so their 71st will not happen, but I am so blessed to have had them both for so long, and for them to have had each other in such deep, abiding love ...

Their story of togetherness for such a momentous celebration and also for both of their birthdays is indeed a glorious occasion to write them this beautiful, beautiful poem for them to cherish. I loved seeing their picture and I love this gorgeous tribute to all their years and to their birthdays Greg! Please congratulate them both and wish them a wondrous birthday from me. I must save this heartwarming poem in my Faves! You are so blessed to still have them in your life. xxoo

excellent sonneteering, my friend. It's unbelievable they have lasted so many years. If our health does not give out on us, Joe and I will be these two in 24 years, but in we will be 89 when it happens!!

Indeed, it was a miracle, (though 71 will not happen). I pray you make that and then some, Andrea, and are healthy and happy and in love! Blessings. <3

What a beautiful tribute to their lasting love, Greg. I love the personal photographic touch you sometimes include too. The one of you and your Mum in the boat was so special.

Many kind thanks to you, Wendy, I so appreciate it! Yes, I love that one, too, as we lived on the lake year-round when I was little, and had a camp thereafter, always many good times in the boat. I am so blessed, (though I lost Dad on 10/27). Blessings. <3

Thank you so much, Jan, seems 71 was not to be ... but I am so thankful for having them both around for so long. It will take some time to get over losing Dad, but that's a part of life. Blessings. <3
