Happening

It happens.
One morning you wake up
in a thick, tangled mess
of connections where you seem
trapped in the root bound ball
of your head.
The outside world comes through
only in a muffled mix of sounds
and shadows.

Then the rain taps
its presence, starts whispering
in the gutters and you listen,
feel the tightly wound threads ping
one by one as they let go.
There is a lightening, an ease
that enters through each taken
breath and settles a calm
where before the carcass
of a dream kept twitching
with its lingering terrors.

A lovely wet green wash cools
the ashes. There is no
loneliness here. Life moves
closer, embraces, holds together
as each softly sinks into the other.
You feel yourself letting go.

Oh what a tangled mind we weave; embrace of nature grants reprieve. Nicely done, Paul.
