Hapi Godess of the Nile

From cradle to grave the sun baked
the skin leather, un-oiled
and rain did not fall
for Isis with held her tears.
From the bloody care of womb
children popped like bread from
the oven of women, the urns of life,
earthen were their colors
ocher, saffron, and
some as black as basalt, rich…
with a Nubian glow.
How the small ones squeal
at the wadi’s edge.
How the toes of man and beast
dance at the skirt of mother Nile,
sensuous, rippling with the wind,
or placid in the doldrums of summer sun.

dang, debs! a bombardment of visceral images taking me to different prisms of the theme---from impressionist shades to realistic descriptions of the nile.. how you even blend metaphors and personifications then pull it through as one unified thought amazes me no end! my head spins! :) huggs, nette

Nothing like waking up & reading an excellent poem about Isis. Did you know that rose petals were thrown throughout the church services during the roman period... thanks Julie Heckman

Oh, how I love this imagery and these issues. Metaphors and sculpture - with feeling and fantasy! Already becoming cycle with Egyptian themes. Continue, please.

Another wonderful topic and beautiful write on the country of Pyramids. Thank you for the information about the contest.
