Contest : Spooky Halloween              Sponsor: Tania Kitchin

Halloween Sidewalk borrows a little from

my upcoming poem

'Rum n Raisin 10 - Three Months Of Crazy'

as that poem was too long for the contest.

The world had gone mad, all the people had flipped I glared at a window where blood and gore dripped Folk wandered blindly, their eyes hanging out And bats big as rats seemed to flit all about Two nuns and a vicar with vampire fangs Lurked under the tree where a skeleton hangs A haggard old hunchback went lumbering by A rat riding high on the stake in his eye Green men with stitches and bolts through their necks Gargoyles enduring some terrible hex A madman was strutting the strut of the dead While clutching the arrow that’s right through his head A witch reached out for me and that’s when I fled I ran to my house and cried out, “They’re all dead!” The door opened wide and my dad’s hair was red “Look Son, I’ve got a big axe in my head.”

I love your style Terry - you are so clever! A great storyteller with an abundance of humour. Perfect! All your poems flow so well with great rhyming. So, so entertaining. This is such a fun Halloween read with so much in it - all aspects covered. The last two lines made me laugh. Well done! I’m thinking a daily dose of Terry’s poetry will keep the blues away :) I better start now… Good luck in the contest. :):)

Thank you, Christina. One of my more restrained poems (word-count wise). Only a week to go and I can release it’s ‘parent poem’, hope it won’t be an anticlimax. ;-)

hilarious Halloween creation. I've I'd witnessed what you'd seen I would've run to my house too believing that the walking dead had taken over the earth or at least my neighborhood. smiles...and thanks for the humor, Sara

The world around us can go mad, Terry, in the insane manner, but if madness is responsible for your humor, stay insane!

Thank you, Lin… I think! I decided to write ‘Rum n Raisin 10’ in honour of Halloween but finished it sooner than expected. I’m hoping to hang on to it til Halloween, but lines here and there seemed fitting for this contest. So I yanked them out, dumped the kittens (Awww!) and filled in the blanks. Glad you enjoyed. By the way… I haven’t been called ‘insane’ since I fell in that river in Paris.

On my word Terry, the poem is scary though hilarious, except of course the axe in dad’s head… Belle

Thanks, Belle. The original poem made it clear that this was all faux gore… alas the contest has a line limit so I hoped I’d inferred that message in the final line. ;-)
