Halloween
All the streets were filled with trick-or-treaters.
'Twas not so long ago on Halloween.
I, too, joined the costumed candy eaters.
A vibrant sight now no more to be seen...
Door to door marched children of all ages.
Our neighbors were all people we could trust.
Passing time has turned too many pages
And memories are now just so much dust.
Still, I can recall sweet flavored laughter,
The bag of treats that lasted but a day.
And, yes, the tummy aches that came after,
And consequences of the tricks we'd play.
Those days are gone, a sad but honest fact.
Perhaps our grandchildren will bring them back.
