Notes About The Poem

(Entry for the Half Past Summer, Two Months Till Fall Poetry Contest, sponsored by Andrea Dietrich, submitted July 18, 2025)

Half Past Summer, Two Months Till Fall

it's half past summer
and the best is yet to come...
warm temps...then cooler
in August through September
the harvest beckons and stirs

Summers there sound lovely, but I have a feeling I wouldn't be able to handle the winters lol. I do enjoy a cup of tea, not only iced tea as we US Southerners are stereotyped with... although I do enjoy a nice glass of sweet tea hehe

Fortunately, I live in Canada, next to the Atlantic Ocean, so summers are not too intense. Glad you enjoyed the tanka. (And I like your avatar! I take it that you love tea. So do I!) Take care. Jim

hot here now in Texas and will be till mid September. Leaves fall off the trees due to the heat and not from the changing of the seasons...I'm already looking forward to those cooler temps you mention. Best wishes with the contest, Sara

Thank you, Sara. The past 3 days here have seen temps in the high 60s - low 70s (Fahrenheit) range. Not bad.
