Hail Inside the House

We were at Canandaigua Lake,
but the house was facing the other way
It was you, me, and my sisters

The house was bigger,
but unstable
You wouldn't listen to me
about the roof

When the sky was black,
I brought in beach chairs
and locked all the doors

We jumped under the covers
and tried to feel warm

Then we felt ice on our fingertips

We looked up

Hail was falling from Heaven

CC, I like this suspenseful poem. Well done. It captures childhood perspectives. Moon Harp
